On December 1, 2009, the state of North Carolina will ban texting and sending emails while driving. North Carolina will join 18 other states that have bans that place a restriction on drivers’ texting while operating a vehicle. “A study from Car and Driver magazine found that texting is more dangerous than driving drunk (via hearldonline).”
Although this law will be in affect, it still won’t nor can it stop texting while driving from going on. A Virginia Tech study showed that a wreck is 23 times more likely to occur if you are texting while driving. The average person usually spends five to seven seconds looking down at a text ….dangerous no matter the speed in which you are traveling. This is serious business; an innocent mistake can cost you your life. Just a couple of week’s age, on September 8th, Stanly, North Carolina teen, Brittany Johnson, was killed in a crash while sending her mother a text message. Each driver has to make these decisions when behind the wheel and voice concern to others who do this in the car while you are a passenger. Life is a precious gift; DO NOT TAKE IT FOR GRANTED!!
Now, I'm not even going to lie...I, too, am guilty of this! My driving technicality preferences is tweeting over texting, but their both dangerous and take concentration, which can not play a dual role with driving. While gathering information for this post, I came across countless stories of tragic and unfortunate accidents that have occurred from texting (or in my case tweeting) while driving.
This was an eye-opening experience for me and I pledge, from here on out, to NOT text, tweet, nor check my emails while driving! If they're that important that I must read them, I will wait to take a quick glance at them while at a red light or simply by pulling over at the nearest convenience store to send my tweet or text! I support North Carolina and the other states that have passed laws and legislation against this! No more lives are worth a simple text...we must slow down, pay more attention, and dedicate all our focus on driving, not only for ourselves but for other drivers that neglect to do so!!
FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS TWEET/TEXT & DRIVE!!!
